Who's nycFirefighter?

It's simple. nycFirefighter is a website for FDNY firefighters to rant, rave, discuss, comment, and learn. 

nycFirefighter is owned by a retired FDNY firefighter, and is available to all, free of charge. Being retired, there is less concern for anyone in the FDNY Administration trying to take action against the owner. Other sites in the past, run by current members of FDNY, may run into the issue of a call from above politely inquiring about the site while silently implying that 'things' like a transfer or detail might magically happen.

Free from that long arm of Administration, this site is able to offer a forum for those who wish to discuss issues that might be banned from other websites. Nothing against the other sites. It's completely understandable to be extra cautious. That 'Oath of Office' charge can be levied, regardless of whether you actually had anything to do with the post. Unlike the real world, where community websites have been found NOT Responsible for the postings of others (re: MySpace, Google Groups, AOL), the FDNY members fall under special rules stripping away basic Real World rights. 

Of course, Libel and Slander cannot be tolerated. A lie is a lie, and if it is reported as such, it may be removed.
